Gift for Dan and Ann Periard of Birch Run. I painted this as a wedding gift for them when I was 17 years old. Despite only having a few art classes, some elements in this painting are working quite well. The birds, for instance, the larger is closer than the smaller ones, and the sun in the sky, which is partially obscured by clouds and atmosphere, is a deep orange-red color. The water is a deep blue, which indicates that it is deep and cold. The waves break along the continental shelf on this violently windy day, as the sandy shore supports the dark, black rocks of this early seascape.
What a great piece!
