Raphael Sanzio: Raphael Sanzio, known to the world as simply Raphael, was born in Urbino, Italy in 1483. Even though he died at the age of 37, much of his work has endured the ages, some of it being on the walls of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican in Rome. He ran the largest workshop of students and assistants, which numbered 50, of any of the old masters of his time. Raphael died at the age of 37, in the year 1520, which was rumored to be the result of a fever contracted from a woman during an all night sexual encounter. He lied about the origin and the doctor's gave him the wrong cure, which killed him. His funeral was very grand, attended by large crowds of people.

Renoir, Pierre-Auguste: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) was one of the main members of the Impressionist Movement which began in France during the 1860's. His first successful exhibit occured in 1874 during the Impressionist Exhibition. Renoir is known for painting scenes during festive occasions, using a lot of bright colors, and blurring the subjects, which creates movement. He spent his later years near the Mediterranean coat, after developing rheumatoid arthritis.

Repetition: The use of the same visual effect a number of times in a composition which has the effect of a harmonious relationship, dominance of one visual idea, rhythmic movement, or a planned pattern.

Representational Art: A type of art where the subject is presented through the visual art elements so that the observer is reminded of actual art elements, for example, a drawing or painting of an orange, looks like an orange. A relief sculpture of a phone looks like a phone.
